Holy Week Guided Retreat 2011

This retreat, which begins on the evening of Friday, 15 April, 2011, and ends on Easter Sunday morning (24 April), will be directed by Fr. Michael Paul Gallagher, S.J., former Lecturer in Literature in UCD, Emeritus Professor in the Gregorian University and currently Rector of the Collegio Bellarmino, Rome.  Fr. Gallagher has written widely on issues of faith and culture.  His most recent book is Faith Maps (DLT, 2010).

Following the pattern of the Spiritual Exercises, Fr. Gallagher will give a substantial talk each morning as an aid to the day’s prayer. For those who wish, there will be opportunities to meet Fr. Gallagher or one of the other directors in Manresa for a personal discussion. The Eucharist will be celebrated each evening, and Eucharistic adoration will be available for those who wish. The retreat will culminate with the celebration of the Easter Triduum.

To facilitate the growth of inner stillness and a prayerful disposition, the retreat, including meals, will be spent in silence. Participants are encouraged to leave aside the ‘busy’ accessories normally taken for granted - mobile phones, radios, newspapers, etc. – in order to keep the heart focused on ‘the one thing necessary’ (Lk.10:42).
